Axelle Bagot grew up in a family where contributing to something larger than oneself was simply part of everyday life. Raised among physicians, educators and artists, she was inspired by a grandfather who joined the French Resistance as a teenager during the Second World War and a grandmother who founded a school during the Occupation. She learned early that there are many meaningful ways of contributing to society.

Drawn to languages, travel, philosophy, anthropology, sociology, and the arts, she became fascinated by how people can experience the same reality while making sense of it in profoundly different ways. Rather than searching for a single truth, she became interested in understanding the assumptions, histories, and cultures that shape how individuals and groups perceive the world.

Her posting to the French Embassy in Syria in the early 2000s, followed years later by witnessing the Arab Spring from close range, fundamentally reshaped how she understood leadership, authority, and social change. From that point on, she came to see countries, organizations, communities, and teams as living systems shaped by history, identity, relationships, and culture. These experiences reinforced her conviction that the challenges leaders seek to solve are often symptoms of deeper human and systemic dynamics, and that lasting change depends as much on understanding those dynamics as on addressing the visible problem.​
